Police Chief Involved With Illegal Video Poker MurderedA former Carroll Township police chief and his wife were both found dead in their home, Howard Springer (63) and his wife Nancy Springer (65) were both found dead in their home in Washington County on March 5th. The State police say that both deaths are being investigated as homicides.
There are some that have to be considering if his role in an illegal video poker operation might have something to do with the double homicide. Howard Springer had retired as Carroll Township police chief in May of 1999 shortly before he was arrested for his part in illegal video poker operation.
He pled guilty to a variety of charges that were related to the illegal video poker operation at a deli in his town. Springer was accused of protecting the operation, playing at the machines while he was on duty and getting more then $7,500 in winnings from the machines. According to court records, Springer got three years of probation and fines.
